Wisp privacy policy
Last updated October 8, 2026
This policy covers Wisp only. Wisp is operated by Headpat Space. Who we are, how to reach us and your rights are described in our general privacy policy.
Wisp is a desktop app by Headpat Space for connecting to servers over SSH, SFTP, FTP, S3 and VNC. The short version: Wisp has no account, no analytics and no telemetry, and it does not send your connections, passwords or files to Headpat Space.
What Wisp does with your connections and files
- Wisp connects only to the servers you add and sends your data only to them.
- Hostnames, usernames, passwords, keys and files go from your computer to the server you choose, and nowhere else. Headpat Space never receives them.
What is stored on your computer
- Your saved profiles, groups and settings.
- Passwords, keys and other secrets, in an encrypted vault. The vault key is held by your operating system's keychain or protected by a password you choose.
- The host keys of servers you have trusted, so Wisp can recognise them and warn you if one changes.
All of this stays on your device and is removed when you delete Wisp and its data folder.
Update check
When Wisp starts, it asks GitHub whether a newer version exists, by downloading a small file from the release pages of the Wisp repository. GitHub receives your IP address and the technical data every web request contains, and handles it under GitHub's privacy statement. Wisp installs an update only if you choose to, and only if it carries Headpat Space's signature.
What Wisp does not do
- It has no analytics, tracking, advertising or crash reporting that sends data anywhere.
- It has no accounts, sign-in or registration.
