How to set up a Satisfactory dedicated server

Set up a Satisfactory dedicated server step by step. Order it, start it, claim it in the Server Manager and upload your existing save.

With a dedicated server your factory keeps running when the host goes offline, and everyone can drop in whenever they like. This guide takes you from ordering a Satisfactory server on Headpat Space to building together in your own world.

What you need

  • A Headpat Space account with a verified email address and your billing details filled in.
  • Satisfactory on Steam or Epic Games. Players from both stores can join the same server.
  • Enough memory. The preselected 4 vCPU and 16 GB RAM suits a factory that will grow large. A small group starting fresh can begin with less, from 6 GB RAM, and move up later under Change plan.

1. Order the server

  1. Sign in to the panel, open Game Servers in the sidebar and click New server.
  2. Under 1. Pick a game, choose Satisfactory. There is only one variant, so it is selected for you.
  3. Under 3. Pick a location, choose the location closest to your players.
  4. Under 4. Configure resources, set CPU, RAM and disk.
  5. Under 5. Name and finalize, give the server a name.
  6. Under Game settings you can set Max Players. The default is 4, which is what the game is tuned for. Higher values work, but large factories may run less smoothly.
  7. Click Continue to checkout and pay.

You land on the page of your new server. The installer downloads the server files from Steam, which takes a few minutes. You can follow it in the Console.

Since version 1.1, Satisfactory needs a second port next to the game port. Your server gets it automatically, so there is nothing to set up.

2. Start the server

Go back to the server page and click Start under Server actions. The first start takes a little longer because the server checks for updates. Wait until the console calms down.

3. Add the server in the game and claim it

  1. Start Satisfactory and open Server Manager from the main menu.
  2. Click Add Server. Enter the Host and the Port from the Address card on your server page. Do not use the game's default port 7777, use the port the panel shows.
  3. A new server has no owner yet. The game asks you to claim it: choose a server name and an admin password. Keep that password safe, because anyone who has it can manage the server.
  4. Open the Create Game tab, pick a starting area, name the session and click Create Game.
  5. Join the game. Your friends add the server the same way and join without the admin password.

Want to keep strangers out? Set a player password under Server Settings in the Server Manager.

4. Continue with an existing save

You do not need to start over. In the Server Manager, open Manage Saves, click Upload Save and pick a save from your computer. Then load it. Your whole factory moves to the server.

5. Settings in the panel

Open Startup to change these under Variables. Click Save next to the field and restart the server.

SettingWhat it does
Max PlayersHow many players can be online at once
Number of Rotating AutosavesHow many autosaves the server keeps before it overwrites the oldest
Branch NameLeave empty for the stable game. Enter experimental for the experimental branch
Automatic Updates1 checks for a game update on every start, 0 switches that off

On the experimental branch, every player has to run the experimental version of the game too.

6. Keep your factory safe

The server writes autosaves by itself. For a copy that survives a mistake or a broken update, make backups in the panel as well: see Back up and restore your game server.

If something does not work

  • The game cannot find the server: check that the status is Running and that you entered the host and port from the Address card.
  • Players get stuck or time out while joining: open Network and check that the server has two ports. Under Startup, Reliable Port should show the second one. If players on slow connections still fail on the first try, raise Client Initial Connection Timeout to 60.
  • Version mismatch after a game update: restart the server. With Automatic Updates on 1 it updates itself on start.
  • The server gets slow as the factory grows: look at Live usage on the server page. If RAM stays close to the limit, add memory under Change plan.
